GOLDEN JUBILEE AT S.S.S. GAYAAZA

MESSAGE FROM THE CARDINAL

“Cooperation between leaders and parents is vital for our schools”

Friends present, students and parents of Our Lady of Good Counsel SSS Gayaza gathered to celebrate the life and achievements of fifty years , its with great joy that I greet you the great family.

I believe it is right to say it is by Gods design that this jubilee occurs at the same time the Archdiocese of Kampala is also celebrating its Golden Jubilee. In the same spirit we remember with gratitude our schools humble beginning and its steady and fruitful growth over the years. Many of our other schools also have celebrated 50 years in recent months. They too had similar humble beginnings. I salute the men and women of that time who, contrary to all the odds were courageous enough to embark on the work from which we today are reaping abundant harvest.

Leadership matters a lot for any enterprise. The fraternity of our Lady of Good Counsel remembers with admiration and gratitude the role played by Mrs. Laboke during the years she headed our school. She set standards which, since her time, for both the staff and students, have served as a springboard to rise to greater heights. I salute the present leadership and students. Cooperation between leaders and parents is vital for our schools. I pray that it may never be lacking at any time.

During the fifty years we are celebrating many men and women have gone out of Gayaza Our Lady of Good Counsel SSS. One would expect to see their impact on society. Where are they in the Business world? Where are they in Church life? Where are they in political life? Uganda expects leaders, good leaders and entrepreneurs from our school. Godspeed, Our Lady of Good Counsel S.S.S Gayaza..

His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala

ARCHBISHOP EMERITUS OF KAMPALA

My soul proclaims the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my saviour for his goodness to us and for all the graces that he bestowed upon us as a congregation of Mary Reparatrix. It has been such a wonderful experience that each time we go back to these historical memories since the arrival of our Sisters in Uganda (The Pearl of Africa), I find a deeper meaning of what we are called to be.

Saint Mary's Cathedral Rubaga, commonly referred to as Rubaga Cathedral, is the parent cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala, the oldest Roman Catholic diocese in Uganda. In 1914 the missionaries began constructing a modern cathedral at Lubaga (Rubaga). Construction was completed in 1925 and St. Mary's Cathedral Rubaga was consecrated on 31 December 1925.
