Today we are all united physically and spiritually to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Diocese of Jinja. It is my pleasure as Bishop to heartily welcome all of you.

Most especially I greet your Excellency the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda Archbishop Michael Blume for gracing our Golden Jubilee celebrations with your personal presence.

I greet your Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda for loving us and being with us in this celebration. Together with all the dignitaries, we say thank you for coming.

I salute all the Clergy, Religious and all of you People of God.

Today as we celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Diocese of Jinja, we look back at events in the past in order to rejoice in the present and again draw inspiration and strength to face the future. The zeal and perseverance of the early Mill Hill Missionaries should generate enthusiasm in us and inspire us to undertake our task of deeper evangelization with determination and hope. This work of evangelization should always start anew with every generation. As heirs and grandchildren of those who went before us in faith, we have the task of continuing it keeping in mind that; “Where there is faith, there is NO joking (Bakagwa, aghali okwikiriza GHAZIRA Muzanho)."

I pay my tribute to the Mill Hilt Missionaries especially Msgr. Joseph Wierts, the first Diocesan Administrator and to my Predecessor the Late Bishop Joseph Willigers MHM for the good work done at the establishment and shepherding of the Diocese of Jinja.

I would like to thank the organizing committee and commend them for their tireless efforts and the organizational skills exhibited while preparing for this Golden jubilee celebration.

May the Spirit of the Lord rest upon all of you as you join in this celebration! May we remain in the Love of God.

Rt. Rev. Charles Martin Wamika
