Bishop Christopher Kakooza
1999 - 2014
Bishop Christopher Kakooza was born on 15 November 1952, at Nsambya Hospital. His parents lived in the neighbourhood called Lusaze, in present-day Rubaga Division, in Kampala, in the Archdiocese of Kampala.
He was ordained a Priest on 3rd June 1983 at St Mbaaga’s Major Seminary, Ggaba, as a member of the pioneer class at that seminary.
He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala, and Titular Bishop of Casae in Numidia, on 2 January 1999.
He was appointed bishop on 2 January 1999. He was consecrated as Bishop on 17 April 1999 at Rubaga Cathedral, the seat of Kampala Archdiocese, by Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala, Archbishop of Kampala, assisted by Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa, Bishop of Masaka and Bishop Matthias Ssekamaanya, Bishop of Lugazi.
He was appointed Bishop of Lugazi on 4 November 2014. He was installed as Bishop of Lugazi on 3 January 2015 by Bishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga Bishop of the Archdiocese of Kampala.
Bishop Matthias Ssekamaanya

Bishop Matthias Ssekamaanya (born 15 October 1936), is the Bishop Emeritus of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lugazi, having been appointed to that position on 9 March 1985 and having retired as bishop on 4 November 2014.
He was born on 15 October 1936, in Kasolo Village, in present-day Mubende District in the Buganda region of Uganda. He was ordained a priest on 19 December 1965 at the Archdiocese of Kampala and severed as a priest in Kampala Archdiocese, until 9 March 1985.
He was appointed bishop on 9 March 1985, serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala and as Titular Bishop of Iziriana. He was ordained bishop on 2 June 1985 at Kampala by Cardinal Emmanuel Kiwanuka Nsubuga†, Archbishop of Kampala, assisted by Bishop Barnabas Rugwizangonga Halem ’Imana†, Bishop of Kabale and Bishop Paul Lokiru Kalanda†, Bishop of Moroto.
He was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Lugazi on 30 November 1996 by Pope John Paul II and installed as the first (founding) Bishop of Lugazi. On 4 November 2014, his age-related resignation was accepted by Pope Francis, who appointed Bishop Christopher Kakooza as his replacement
Bishop Joseph Mukwaya
1982 - 1988
Bishop Joseph Mukwaya was born on 29th September, 1928 to the late Andrew Katula ( Mbogo clan) and late Elizabeth Mubiito ( Ngabi Clan) at Kiwangula – Mulajje Parish Bulemeezi. He was born in a family of 6 children, 3 girls and 3 boys.
He begun his studies at His Uncle’s Home at Bukasa Namawojja. He went to Mulajje for class 2 – 4. He went to His Auntie’s home for class 5 – 7 and there after joined St Peter’s Nsambya Junior
Secondary School, Nyenga Minor Seminary and Gaba Major Seminary.
He was ordained priest by Bishop Vincent Billington of Nsambya. He worked in the following places for his pastoral work:
Pope John Paul appointed him Bishop on 10th September 1982, consecrated as Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese on 31st October 1982 by Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga at Lubaga.
He was appointed Bishop of Kiyinda Mityana Diocese 21st August 1988.
He succumbed to cancer on 04th September 2008. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
